2013-2014 Team France. CHECK!

Wow. I made it, I'm in! I'm part of the selection for the new French Team, with 39 other players... and the list is quite mouthwatering: Imagine a silver plate with 80 SPORTY FROG LEGS. Yummy!

The suspense was broken in the weekend for the lucky chosen skaters, who were personally contacted by the coaching team to confirm their availability and motivation. Names were added to the list one by one and the team fleshed out before our very eyes.

The list was revealed once all the concerned people had given their answers, as intended and announced, on Tuesday Sept. 3 at 11PM on the dot.

It was then not much of a surprise, but at last we could burst out in joy publicly -- by publicly I mean: through facebook statuses, it goes without saying.

Nearly 90 rollergirls tried their luck at the 3 try-out sessions of the summer. Statistically you had roughly one chance out of two to be picked. Same as last time, but harder as all the numbers were doubled. Twice more candidates for twice more places. Means twice more deliberating, at least.

Apart from being very proud, I am also utterly happy because I'll get to play again with the Paris RollerGirls All-Stars, who shift from the status of soon-to-be-former team-mates to that of still-current team-mates, which is one of the most fanfuckintastic parts of the story: We are 11 of the 2013 PRG As to have made it, which is almost the whole usual roster! That's one hell of a team performance here, although it is only the beginning and everything still has to be proven.

Let's note the selection of 7 Petites Morts of Bordeaux, which is the second biggest league group of the team -- quite a change compared to the 2011 version where they were completely outnumbered by Toulouse and Paris. From the previous draft of 20+5 girls, only 10 survived. The sport is developping fast and competition gets more and more challenging as months go by, which is explicitely illustrated by the composition of the team: it is far more varied this time with, apart from Paris and Bordeaux, girls from Brest, Toulouse, Metz, Montpellier, Nantes and Rennes, as well as expats from Montreal, London, Malmö, Birmingham, Washington, Oxford... (and hopefully Berlin with yours truly in a few weeks.)

We already have a busy schedule ahead with several 5-day training camps and a few games booked for the season. We have a lot on our plate.

Next meeting on October 30th for the first try altogether, which should be explosive given the promissing glimpse we had at the try-out session!

...Only 56 days left!
