Freestyle Judge Training in Madrid

This weekend I gave a hand to a long-term friend to help him into a delicate task: Examining candidates who passed a freestyle skating judge test.
The judge training was taking place in Madrid, Spain. Kio and Marie, whom I met in rehab, came pick me up at the airport on Saturday afternoon. I worked on the exam videos the candidates would have to explain the next day, and then we went for a night trip, driving the streets of Madrid in Kio's convertible Mercedes, visiting the Temple of Debob (an ancient Egyptian temple that was rebuilt in the center of Madrid), having a drink, going to a friend's where we spent most of the evening telling weird stories about mosquitoes in Asian jungles and English seaside resorts inhabited by old people, until bed-time.

Happy Derbyversaire III

The PARIS ROLLERGIRLS are celebrating their THIRD Derbyversary. Today. Still and always on Valentine's day because we bring the passion (or should we rather say: because passion brought us?) Time flies.

Let's make the proverb lie!
On the first year, we had organized that bootcamp which makes me very nostalgic. On the second year, there was a private home team bout. The overall situation back then does not bring very good memories -- diminished after injury, it was my first plunge into derby for a couple of months and I felt very lost and frustrated in the public.

This year, we are going to mark the occasion with our first A-Team bout of the season this weekend against the Royal Windsor RollerGirls, preceeded by the very first bout of our men's twin league, the Panam Squad who will meet the Kamiquadz of Montpellier.

And we will of course finish with a flourish with an afterbout party at the Bootlager's!

I hand over to Sailor Blood for the conclusion:

Skatexpress at Charity Ball

Me and two of my rollerdance partners, Jim and Marjo, had committed to perform an act at the Charity Ball of MAGliss'XS, the profit of which is going to go to the "Toiles Enchantées" association, fighting for cinema to be available to hospitalized children.

"When children cannot go to the movies,
the movies should come to them"

REHEARSALS

The ball was a skating night with an ice disco preceeded by a show, and took place in the ice rink of Asnières, in the close Parisian suburbs.

EROC 2013

Version 2.0

The 4th edition of the European Roller Derby Organizational Conference was a 2.0 version of the event in a new venue able to host up to 5 conferences at the same time.

Except for the traditional scrimmage in the end, everything was off-skates. And I am not talking about physical workout but brain workout here! It was for the best as everyone could take part in the various debates on national and European structurations of Roller Derby, ask questions, say comments, compare experiences and situations, give and take advice...

The EROC adapted successfully to the current needs of European Derby. Of course, on-skate classes are fun and exciting, and I will not conceil that I was a bit disappointed in discovering the schedule at first... But thinking it over and with hindsight, we all basically know how to run a practice now... and derby has developped in Europe so that there are other (and better appropriate) occasions to attend punctual classes on bootcamps.

Cirque Eloize: "iD" Show

In a few days, the most unexpected coincidences followed one another so that in the end, I found myself in the VIP area at the Grand Rex theater watching the show "iD" of Cirque Eloize, with Seba team mate and superstar freestyle slalomer Korean Kim Sung Jin performing in it!

It all started with a forgotten SD card story.
Londonner Keanoush who was staying at my place for the Fashion Week had footages belonging to Sung Jin on his hard drive. We made the most of Sung Jin's touring in Paris to have dinner together at my place, which was the occasion to meet together ("long time no see...") eat home-made sushis and take-away pizzas, and transfer the crucial footages for an upcoming video, which Keanoush was holding hostage for months, into Sung Jin's SD card... Which he unfortunately forgot when he left... The African beers from the shop down the street must be to blame...

Make it Rock, Make it Roll

"Make it Roll" is the brand-new music video of my band Akouphën!
Its making of was epic and the video experienced a 14-month gestation period! Most of the footage was symbolically shot on November 11th, 2011 (11.11.11), on the release of the album the track is from, entitled "ΣLΣVΣN".

With all my injury problems it took me months to get the rushes back, and months again to find the time to shoot the missing scenes (the introduction basically). It took me quite a long time too to get used to the editing software and understand how to improve the lighting, the colors, the encoding and all...

I know it is not perfect, I am just an amateur, but we are quite satisfied with the final rendering!
Thanks again to all the people who took part in the making of of this video, and thanks in advance to all of you who will be willing to SHARE it!
A little click is a big help ;)

"LET'S GONNA TAKE CONTROL
MAKE IT ROCK, MAKE IT ROLL
PEOPLE"

The lyrics are quite simple.
I am aware that it is not totally idiomatic but:
  1. We are French and
  2. It has a good rhythm in it.

The album is available in its CD version on the AkouStore of our website.
And if you are more into MP3s, we are registered on iTunes and CDBaby!
