Back in the Saddle

At the physio's while warming up on the eliptor, I mentionned that my knee was hurting a bit today.
"What did you do since last time?"
"Err--I tried to rollerskate..."

I was clearing myself profusely when she stopped me and said that I had done right. (Right??) Yes because I'm ready now and the motor patterns will help my knee remember how it works.

I didn't exactly confess that I had spent the three hours of practice on skates running simultaneously the trainings of the advanced and freshmeats all alone, showing all the drills. But then I won't complain if I have her blessing!

"Warm up, take it easy and have fun this weekend, you're doing good!"

Kozmic Derbynterview on MUNDO DERBY

A couple of weeks ago, JustMean of the brand-new Latin-American Derby Website MUNDO DERBY, asked me for an interview. I was all the more flattered (not to say excited and proud) that it was my first real derbynterview. CHECK IT OUT HERE:

I decided to return the favor in advertizing for their website here. I was a bit worried because it is integrally in Spanish and I don’t speak a word of Spanish.
In order to be sure that the information I was going to spread was accurate, I had the idea to interview my interviewer! Haha!.
My interviewed interviewer is JustMean #17 and she belongs to the amateur team of the Sailor City-Rollers in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Dark Side of the CERS

4 weeks’s a long and a short time altogether. And I was longing for this retreat as much as I was dreading it. Longing for being taken care of and sweating, dreading for managing to fit in and make friends.
I’m used to say that I’m naturally shy and that I’ve been fighting against this tendency for years… but sometimes I wonder if I’m not just a solitary person – not to say antisocial!

ANTISOCIAL

“I play football/rugby/volley ball/handball… And you play (…) ROLLER DER-WHAT?!”  I was asked this question dozens of times. This triggered a general curiosity through word of mouth. And it led me to meeting two other outcasts: Kio and Camille, Kayak Polo players (two what?). However it took me some time to talk to them. Remember, I’m antisocial…
It was so obvious that, as soon as my 3rd day, I was nicknamed Lizbeth Salander after Millenium’s heroin. “You’ve got that something…” Although I found the comparison quite flattering, I realized that I was probably scary with my black looks and my derby shirts slaving away on the muscle building equipment.

They tried to make me go to rehab...

...and I said 'Yes Yes Yes'

4 weeks’s a long and a short time altogether. And I was longing for this retreat as much as I was dreading it. Longing for being taken care of and sweating, dreading for managing to fit in and make friends. In this first summary I will concentrate on the sweating part, the socializing stuff will be the subject of a second post.
I was in room 432: A single room with a large bay window looking onto the ocean. The bed was the same kind as you find in hospitals with the head and the foot that can be lifted up – which happens to be handy when you want to read or work on your computer. Every morning at around 7:30, the nurses would knock at each door to wake us up. Breakfast was served from 7:30 to 8:30 except on Sundays (rest days) when we could oversleep until 8-ish!

Derbyversaire 2 "Freaky Derby Day"

Yesterday -- Sunday, March 4th was the official celebration day for the second derbyversaire of the Paris RollerGirls. This year because of the lack of sports facilities for skaters in Paris, the PRG couldn't take the risk to organize a bootcamp. However, an event was organized on the fly when we learnt a couple of weeks ago that we could book the hall where we usually play our games in Paris.

The actual derbyversary date of the Paris RollerGirls is on the 14th of February... Saint Valentine day. No use to wonder why Paris Brings the Passion: it was Cupid's birthday gift!
